Princess Kate Makes a Glowing Royal Comeback

Princess Kate is back in action.

It’s been nearly half a year since her last official public appearance, and only a few months since she shocked the world with news of her unexpected cancer diagnosis. Now, Catherine, Princess of Wales, has at last returned to the limelight to partake in today’s Trooping the Colour festivities in London.

She arrived at the ceremony in a carriage heading down the Mall. Sitting next to her were her three children: Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.

Naturally, Kate’s highly anticipated royal comeback also means a homecoming for one of the public’s most beloved royal wardrobes. With all eyes on her, she delivered with an elegant outfit, composed of a white long-sleeved midi dress with black trim by Jenny Packham. The dress featured a striped black belted waist and a large ribbon detail fixed to the neckline. She topped off the look with a matching hat from Philip Treacy, plus white Jimmy Choo pumps and a black Mulberry clutch.

Kate confirmed her attendance at today’s event in a personal letter released by Kensington Palace on Friday. In the letter, she gave a rare update on her progress with chemotherapy.

“There are good days and bad days,” she wrote. “On those bad days you feel weak, tired, and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”

Kate’s appearance today does not mean she will return to her role in a full-time capacity just yet.

“My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months,” she explained in her letter. “I’m looking forward to attending the King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet. I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much-needed time to heal.”

Don’t expect a full-time comeback any time soon

A royal insider told Bazaar earlier this month that Kate’s primary concern right now is regaining her health, but said she still intends to continue her work as a senior royal in the future.

“There is no information about Kate’s ‘return’ because the focus at this moment in time is 100 percent on her health—to suggest she won’t return to her role is unfair and untrue,” the source said. “Conversations of that nature are just not being had. When the time is right, she will resume her work.”
