It was a big night for The Bear at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.
The Hulu series has become an industry darling since premiering in 2022. And tonight, the show’s first season took home a whopping 10 awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series. Stars Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ayo Edebiri each won for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, respectively.
Matty Matheson, a real-life chef who stars as Neil Fak in the series, spoke on behalf of the cast for their Outstanding Comedy Series win. In his hilarious speech, he highlighted the tight-knit cast and crew of the Chicago-based series.
“I just want to thank restaurants as a whole, hospitality as a whole,” Matheson began, before being interrupted with a surprise kiss from his costar Moss-Bachrach. “I just love restaurants so much. The good, the bad—we’re all so broken inside, and every single day, we have to show up and cook and make people feel good by eating something and sitting at a table, and it’s really beautiful.”
Matheson continued: “We get to make people feel good or feel anxiety or triggered, it seems. This is really amazing—there’s so many people who make this show happen every day. It’s hard work. We don’t see the sun for three months! But I love these people so much … I love my family!”
Given that tonight’s Emmys were honoring The Bear’s premiere season (the award show, originally scheduled for September, was delayed due to last year’s monthslong Hollywood strikes), there are almost certainly more wins on the horizon for the acclaimed series. Season two’s Christmas-themed episode “Fishes” deserves all the Emmys alone.
