Emily Ratajkowski won’t be defined by aesthetic codes. Ever the chameleon and stylistic mixer, the My Body author was spotted in New York City on Thursday afternoon in a cozy summer set that she gave a gorpcore finish. (In case you’re unaware, gorp is trail mix often consisting of granola, oats, raisins, and peanuts—leading to the apocryphal theory that its name is an acronym—and is often cheekily associated with outdoorsy types.)
But back to that in a moment. So far, this summer is on track to be the season of knitwear, from the hottest runway pieces—like Matthieu Blazy’s netted pom-pom dresses at Bottega Veneta—to street-style looks from major stars like Jennifer Lopez. Clearly EmRata is on board too, as she was spotted in a knit viscose midi skirt and a matching pointelle top from Gimaguas.
The model’s asymmetrical white skirt featured a lettucelike edge along the waistband and an opaque swath up top that morphed into a sheer open knit along the bottom. Ratajkowski mirrored the asymmetrical look of her skirt by wearing her cowl-neck top hanging off one shoulder, offering a peek at her brown bra underneath.
As for that gorpcore touch, the Inamorata founder added a pair of Brain Dead × Oakley Factory hiking shoes in an imitation python print. While the rest of her ensemble was flowy and feminine, these chunky, amorphous shoes provided a striking contrast, as well as a pop of color, thanks to the gooey purple bubbles that decorated their outsides.
For accessories, Ratajkowski went for a few of her go-tos, including golden hoop earrings and visorlike black sunglasses. And she showed even more love for Gimaguas by carrying the brand’s mini Franca bag in burgundy, which featured grained leather and silver studs dotting the hemlines. Seems EmRata’s proving she can go from a lunch date to an afternoon hike with ease.
