Aubrey Plaza is single-handedly bringing back the twee aesthetic.

On Friday, the White Lotus actor looked like she’d stepped out of the early 2010s—when in reality, she was attending the Los Angeles premiere for the upcoming movie Thelma. Posing on the red carpet, Plaza wore a black minidress covered in white polka dots, complete with puffy short sleeves and a large white Peter Pan collar. The top half of her dress also featured gold buttons accentuated by ruffles and a black necktie.

Plaza’s look fell perfectly within the twee aesthetic, which has roots in ’60s and ’70s fashion but truly made its mark from the mid-2000s into the 2010s. Often described as “quirky” or “hipster,” the style can be recognized in pieces like minidresses, Peter Pan collars, bright tights, polka dots, and Mary Jane shoes—and Plaza’s outfit, obviously, checked off multiple boxes.

She modernized her look with a pair of black leather slingback heels, decorated with gold accents. The actor also accessorized with a handful of gold rings and a pair of gold starburst earrings. For glam, Plaza filled in her eyebrows and highlighted her dark eyes with black eyeliner. She added a pop of color with a berry-pink lipstick, and styled her shoulder-length brown hair in loose waves with a deep side part.

Plaza’s last red-carpet appearance was a month ago in Cannes, where she celebrated the premiere of Francis Ford Coppola’s sci-fi drama Megalopolis, which she is one of the stars of. She turned heads off the big screen and on the carpet when she wore a glamorous drop-waist satin dress by Loewe.
