The Democratic National Convention is nearly here, and the entire country is preparing to see the turnout from the Dem nominees: presidential candidate Kamala Harris and vice presidential candidate Tim Walz.

Here is everything you need to know about the multiday event.

When is the Democratic National Convention?

The convention will run from Monday, August 19, through Thursday, August 22. Election Day is just 75 days later, on November 5.

Where is the DNC?

It will be held in Chicago, at two separate venues. The United Center, located on the city’s west side, will host evening events, including speeches meant to be livestreamed and watched by the public. McCormick Place, near Lake Michigan, will host more private, closed-meeting daytime events.

Who will be there?

Of course, we’ll get plenty of speeches and appearances from Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz.

President Joe Biden (who stepped away from the race this July) is expected to speak as well, and we’ll surely hear speeches from other politicians within the party, as well as regular voters who support the Harris-Walz ticket. A full list of speakers will likely be released closer to the start of the convention.

What is the purpose of the convention?

At prior DNCs, the party held a roll-call vote to official choose its nominees, but that will not happen this time. Harris was already confirmed earlier in August through a virtual roll call.

So the point of the convention this year will be for the candidates to pour their hearts out about their policies, appeal to their supporters and voters, and make a case for the Harris-Walz ticket, explaining what their tenure in the White House would entail.
